It is with a great sense of sadness, and unexpected loss that we give this tribute in memory of Miss Edith Duberry. Miss Duberry served this country extensively & faithfully, during many Electoral cycles, for over forty years. She served as Returning Officer (at the constituency and national level), Enumerator, Presiding Officer, Poll Clerk, and Educator.

After working with Miss Duberry, we made several observations.

  • She was a natural Educator. She prepared detailed and engaging presentations for the general public. She displayed great passion in teaching, informing her fellow countrymen on how to vote correctly, how to conduct oneself as a poll worker, the importance of taking part in the Electoral process and making one’s voice heard.
  • She was full of Energy. One of our fondest recollections of her is that during the Election period, almost every night we would be going somewhere to conduct Election meetings. No place was too small or too great for her to visit, from Carr’s Bay corner, to ZJB, to the churches, the man on the street, to the elderly in the homes, to the village focus groups, town halls, police officers, youth and church groups.
  • She loved her country. She never backed down from serving. She made sacrifices of her time, effort and resources so that she could serve her country. We know that her life was a great blessing and impact in this country, not only during Elections, but her contribution to maintaining the legacy of free, fair and democratic process will remain with us forever.

We thank God for the life of Edith D. Duberry. She will be greatly, greatly, missed. Our Deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathy are extended to Zhori and family. You will always be in our thoughts and prayers. May her soul Rest in Peace.
